Call for Creative Art to Fight Stigma
Deadline for submission: October 15, 2024
Health-related stigma refers to negative attitudes and beliefs that cause people to fear, reject, avoid, and belittle people with certain illnesses or conditions. It involves labeling people as “different.” Stigma is a major problem for individuals living with HIV/AIDS, mental illness, genetic disorders, and many other health conditions. With HIV, despite medical advances in HIV care, the virus continues to spread due to lack of treatment. It is our belief that we need to acknowledge and address stigma as a barrier to prevention and treatment.
We would like to invite you to submit original artwork in the form of artistic paintings, drawings, essays, poetry, videos, songs, or any art medium surrounding the topic of stigma. Prizes will be awarded, and winning pieces may be featured at the 15th International Conference on Stigma to be held at Howard University, Washington DC on November 19-22nd, 2024 (combination of in person and virtual). The theme this year is: Stigma No More…It’s 2024! A special additional prize category will be available this year through our EMPOWER grant for women/female identifying individuals, with and emphasis on Black women.
The official flyers are below, including the Empower flyer for the special category. To officially submit your artwork, click here.
