Workgroups – Join Us!

Thank you for all the interest. We now have FIVE groups set up. Please see below each group for a brief description, a list of leaders, and how to join:

New- EMPOWER Women’s Workgroup

Leaders- TBD                                                                                                                                                                                                                                This group is being newly established as a part of our EMPOWER grant through the Gilead P.A.C.E. Project (Black Women and HIV: Empowerment through Engagement, Education and Enrichment). The project focus is on HIV and STI prevention and care for Black women. This workgroup is focused on Black women, however membership is open to all those who are allies and advocates as well. The group objectives will be defined by the membership. Examples of activites of other groups include: monthly or quarterly meetings, presentations, advocacy projects, sharing of personal or professional goals and projects, support groups and more. This (like all of our workgroups) is intended to be a flexible and welcoming group with no strict requirements for membership. Please join us!

INTERNALIZED STIGMA

Leaders: Joseph Deluca, Alicia Lucksted, Emily Petti
This group addresses internalized stigma (or “self-stigma”) related to HIV, mental health conditions, and more. They meet 4th Wednesdays at 3PM EST on Zoom in addition to email communication. They also and present and annual session at the International Conference on Stigma.

HIV IN BLACK and HISPANIC COMMUNITIES

Leaders: Jerry Washington, Sheilah Alinda, Bryan Jones
This group will focus on HIV in Black and Hispanic communities, and presents and annual session at the International Conference on Stigma. More specific goals have not been established but we welcome your participation and leadership.

HEALTH EQUITY AND SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH

This group focuses on health equity and social determinants of health with both a research collaboration and advocacy focus. They meet quarterly and share information by email in between.

HETEROSEXUAL MEN “POSITIVE ENTREMPOWERMENT”

This workgroup is for HIV positive Heterosexual men and those of all genders and orientations interested in advocacy or research for this often overlooked group. They run a support group as a part of their mission.
